Things to do in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel

1. Stroll down Quinta Avenida, the heart of Playa del Carmen's nightlife. It is a pedestrian street full of stores, bars and restaurants and there is no denying that it is the main artery of Playa del Carmen and it would be a crime to leave without passing this way.

2. a If you want to eat great tacos, mark these names: El Fogón and El rey de los tacos. There are many other places to eat well and cheaply in Playa del Carmen.

3. Another thing to do in Playa del Carmen is to walk past the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, a typical white Mexican church, to the small lighthouse on the main beach with its distinctive outdoor steps, or of course the PLAYA DEL CARMEN sign in the Parque Fundadores.

4. Visit Cenote Azul, one of the most beautiful cenotes on the Riviera Maya. Admission costs 100 pesos (€5).

5. Take a photo with the Portal Maya, a statue by José Arturo Tavarez Padilla that depicts two figures, one male and one female, forming a kind of arch. It is an icon of the city and is located in the Parque Fundadores. It is undoubtedly one of the best things to see and do in Playa del Carmen.

6. Another recommendable place is Akumal, although it has undergone a major change in recent years due to tourism and is not what it used to be. The main attraction is the chance to swim with turtles..

7. The great Riviera Maya excursion, the one everyone should do: visit Chichen Itza.. You can arrange a day tour with us to learn about one of the 7 wonders of the world.

8. Enjoy an evening with friends or family at the famous Coco Bongo nightclub, with its incredible nightly show.

9. The excursion to visit a paradise island just across from Playa del Carmen is  Cozumel.. Although it can be done on your own, the only thing you have to do is take a ferry that will take you to the island in about 40 minutes.

10. Punta Sur Reserve (Cozumel). Punta Sur, located on the southern tip of Cozumel, is a 1,000-hectare nature reserve with white sand beaches, lakes and palm trees.

It is the largest ecological reserve in Cozumel and is home to a multitude of amphibians, reptiles, exotic birds and mammals.

The star of the park is the crocodile, which can be observed from an observation point or on a guided boat tour, included in the entrance fee.

You can visit the archaeological site of El Caracol (1200-1400) and the Celerain Lighthouse, which is reached by climbing 133 steps for an exceptional 360-degree view of the beaches and sea.

There is also a beautiful white sand beach with crystal clear waters.

It is one of my favorite beaches in Mexico because it is practically virgin, but it has all the facilities to enjoy it: hammocks, chairs, toilets, snorkeling equipment rental, and a snack bar.
